The Main Gods of Ancient Egypt and The Beginning of Creation

How Many Egyptian gods are there? At the beginning of time, there was only known the primeval waters of chaos; then, in a huge flood, the sun god Atum came from the water and spat himself into creation. Then Atum created the air god, a son called Shu, and the moisture, who was a daughter he called Tefnut.

They were the first celestial couple and soon had children of their own: the earth god called Geb and the sky goddess named Nut. The second divine couple got four kids of their own, Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys, to make the final list of nine primeval gods called the Ennead group. Then, Osiris married his sister Isis, and the two took the throne of Egypt together in an unparalleled time of peace and success; however, the jealousy of his brother Seth, who wanted the throne for himself and killed Osiris, disjointed his body, scattering every part of his body across the Nile River.

Later, Osiris’s son, “Horus,” defeated his uncle, “Seth,” and took back the throne. To sum it up, the main gods of ancient Egypt were nine, which are Atum, who was the first god and the most important in ancient Egypt; Shu, who was the god of air; Tefnut, who was the goddess of the rain and dew; Geb, who was the god of earth; Nut, who was the goddess of the sky; Osiris, who was the underworld and afterlife god; Isis, who was the goddess of motherhood and fertility; Nephthys, who was the mourning, childbirth, and darkness goddess; and Seth, who was the god of chaos.
