Why is the Red Sea called “Red”?

The word the Red Sea is a straight translation of the ancient Greek name of Erythrina Thalassa. In Hebrew, it is known as the Sea of Reeds or Yam Suph. In Egyptian terms, it is called Green Space, however, only European languages include any mention of red. 

Besides, the Red Sea contains cyanobacteria known as Trichodesmium erythraeum, which makes the normal blue-green water turn reddish-brown. Also, the Red Sea is the saltiest of all the waters that link to the ocean without passing through a river.
