In Egypt’s capital city of Cairo, the Windsor Hotel is a venerable inn. they built it in 1893. It formerly operated as an extension to the former Shepheard’s Hotel. Which is where it is now located across Alfi Bey Street. Most of its interior and furniture are from the World War 1. That’s when the British Officers used to use it as a Club. According to some, it is “an unrestored tribute to the era of British colonial exploration.
The hotel now is not working because of the reforms.
Architecture
The Wikala of El-Ghouri, a caravanserai in the neighbouring Khan el-Khalili souk, was built in the 16th century, and its outer façade is very similar to the inner courtyard facades of that building. The Royal Opera House, Royal Mail, and Ezbakeyyah Gardens, in addition to the hammam complex, were originally located in this Cairo district. It is one of the few remaining instances of Khedivial patronage.
The manually operated wooden carriage elevator at the Windsor is among the world’s oldest operational elevators of its kind, according to engineers at the Schindler Elevator Corporation. It is also the oldest in Egypt. It appears in episode two of the BBC television series “Around the World in 80 Days,”.
